The Academy of Korean Studies has selected 6 key institutions for Korean Studies from various regions of the world and has provided them with intensive support to sustain their contribution to academic research and education in Korean Studies. KRI has been selected as a key institution to develop Korean Studies and establish a research cooperation network in Southeast Asia and Oceania since 2006.
In 2010, the KRI@UNSW has received the 2010 Laboratory for the Globlaisation of Korean Studies Grant from the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS), Korea for The Korean Model of Growth and Development and Implications for Southeast Asia. In addition, in 2009, the KRI@UNSW commenced a two-year project, entitled Towards the Establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Korean Language and Studies Education and Research from the Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, Australia. The project is to support the achievement of the National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program (NALSSP). The KRI@UNSW’s NALSSP Project aims to develop flexible teaching and learning materials for Korean Language and Studies Education for Australian schools, conduct research on Korean language and studies teaching pedagogy, provide teacher support and professional development opportunities, and undertake various communication activities to promote studies of Korea.
In order to take the role as a regional hub of education and research, KRI makes an effort to consolidate an online network (including other regions).
